We visited Vishala Restaurant after almost a decade, and we were pleasantly delighted!! The new owners/ management have taken over. Very efficient, very hospitable and very hard working crew of "Chandrika, Nisha and Riya" were running the show!! Riya was at the front desk and also attending all the tables very efficiently. She welcomed us very nicely! And as we browsed the menu, we noticed that it was a very good menu with great selection of items! The simplicity of the menu also meant that there will be better attention to each item. We decided to try the Gujrati Kathiwadi Thali and a Punjabi Thali. It was very homemade taste. Each dish in the Thali was amazing!! The buttermilk was refreshing! The Bajre ki roti was delicious in Kathiawadi Thali. Gulab jamun was delicious! Overall the food quality was really good. Very homemade quality! Above all, the warm hospitality and hard work of these ladies is most commendable! Well done!! The Ambiance is beautiful! The restrooms are very clean!! It was a great experience! We wish that there was a Vishala restaurant in Austin! I'm thinking of their food and missing it! We will definitely return to enjoy a meal or two when we visit Houston again! This is really good Gujrati food! Enjoy!! Ria & Tony
If you’re craving authentic Kathiyavadi food in Houston, Vishal Restaurant is an absolute gem! The flavors are rich, bold, and truly remind you of traditional Gujarati home-style cooking. Every dish is perfectly spiced and cooked with care, especially the Kathiyavadi specialties that are hard to find elsewhere. The food tastes fresh, comforting, and full of soul—exactly how Kathiyavadi cuisine should be. Portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and the service is warm and welcoming. The atmosphere feels simple and genuine, letting the food speak for itself. Highly recommended for anyone who loves real, authentic Kathiyavadi and Gujarati food. Vishal Restaurant is a must-visit in Houston!
Definitely a must-visit! Tried the Kathiyawadi Thali and the Vishala Thali. What impressed me most was that none of the vegetables were repeated - each thali was thoughtfully designed to complement the Rotla and Roti. Both came with Gulab Jamun, Chaas, and Khaman. All the vegetables were delicious with a true homemade taste. The ambiance felt very homely, and the staff were warm and welcoming. The restaurant was very clean, including well-maintained and hygienic restrooms, which is always a big plus. Great quality food at an affordable price with generous portions. Ample parking and spacious seating. Will definitely be coming back to try more dishes!
Delicious Vishala Thali! Every dish was tasty; the rotis were soft and just melted on the tongue. The masala chaas was tongue tickling and satisfying. The mirchi pakoras were fried to perfection and the batter coating was even, soft and perfect!
5 stars just for the service itself. Our cashier was very knowledgeable and was willing to inform us on the foods from different areas of India! Ended up really loving the Pickled Green Mango! My husband and I had a wonderful lunch! We will be coming back for sure!!
A great chance find - we loved the food, it was a true taste of home. Everything was delicious, fresh, and made with so much care. The staff is wonderful — warm, attentive, and the fact that it’s an all-women-run team makes it even more special. The space is clean, welcoming, and just feels good. Highly recommend!
Everything was so delicious. We ordered a LOT of food and all the dishes were reasonably priced! For starters, of course we had to have the Pani puri with mint water chutney. This was divine. Mix of black and white chickpeas, spiced potatoes, and refreshing mint water — not too salty! The next dish was the mysore dosa — perfect crunch and texture, loved all three paired sauces and the lentil sambar was perfect. The Chana masala with fried dosa was sooo good, perfectly spiced and not too heavy. The star of the show for me was the vegan thali — I hope you can see how delightful it was from my attached photo. By this point I was already full from the feast of former dishes but I thoroughly enjoyed all the different curries and sides. Since gulab jamun isn’t vegan, she swapped for a delicious fritter — it was sooo good! Finally, I ordered the Manchurian cauliflower, galebi, pistachio barfi, and some Indian snacks to bring home for my husband. All the items were savored and I can’t wait to bring friends by to try more of their dishes!
I was going to post a picture but I was too hungry so I ate all my paneer kadai before I got a chance, so I had to come back and have it again! Great food. Just the right amount of heat. The new Punjabi Thalia is great!
